Pilates

Increase core strength, support your back and improve posture and movement

Pilates is a movement system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates to help prevent injury and increase stability. Originally called ‘Contrology’ this method of exercise is designed to make you focus and learn control of your movements. Joseph Pilates describes it as ``The Pilates Method teaches you to be in control of your body and not at its mercy.``

Pilates aims to balance the body, allowing for efficient and flowing movements, and a body that moves well leads to less wear and tear and lower stress. Each exercise emphasises core conditioning, body awareness and breathing with instructors paying special attention to proper form and alignment.

Matwork Pilates

In a class you will learn to balance and control the major muscles in the body, reduce muscle overload and pain, support current injuries and prevent future ones. You will receive a whole body workout that will teach you habits that will assist in your other fitness activities, day to day chores and postures at work.

I love the idea of Pilates training as it challenges and supports the body. Its something you can never over train in because it will only bring your body more into balance. With a regular commitment to one or two sessions a week you will end up with longer, leaner and stronger muscles in your body.

Whatever level you are starting at, if it’s your first time or you have been doing it for years, you will always be challenged with Pilates. It is a simple but powerful method of movement that can be adjusted for any injury or fitness level.

Wendy Bruce

Wendy Bruce is a Pilates Instructor, Personal Trainer and Musculoskeletal Therapist and has a wealth of experience in injury, strength and flexibility training, postural improvement and improving fitness. If you have injury or just want to improve posture and strength Wendy can help.

What is involved in a class? Do I need to sign up for anything?

If you are new to our studio please arrive 15 minutes before the first class so you can complete your student form and get familiar with the studio. The easiest way to get started is to download our app, create a profile and sign into your first class. You will be prompted to pay for the class if you choose this option and you can do so through our secure payment system. Choose the Introductory Offer for $25 for 2 weeks unlimited Yoga and Pilates classes (meditation not included). This will give you the time to try different classes and test our schedule to see if it works for you.

Then come in, complete your form and we will show you around. We have bathrooms you can change into and we include free mat hire (normally $1 per class) for the length of your introductory offer.
